Mark Cheong is a photographer and visual journalist based in Singapore. He picked up photography as a skateboarder in his teens, using it as a form of journal taking before starting his career at Singapore's largest daily broadsheet The Straits Times back in 2012, and has covered everything from football to festivals, and robberies to riots. He enjoys working on long-form feature stories and has been on assignment extensively in the South-east Asian region, in which he has a keen interest, covering events such as the Myanmar elections (2015), the death of the Thai King (2016), and the earthquake in Lombok, Indonesia (2018). Most recently, he has also had a deeper interest in sports photography, covering the Hangzhou Asian Games (2023) and the Paris Olympics (2024). On top of shooting, he also helps curate the weekly Home in Focus picture spread in The Straits Times, which has both print and online versions.
